Man Who Vandalized Cars At Parliament Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

Published by

Christopher Kofi Kyere Sorkpa, a 33-year-old preacher, has been sentenced to five years in prison for vandalizing vehicles at the car park of Ghana’s Parliament House. The Accra High Court handed down the sentence after Sorkpa pleaded guilty to six charges, including conspiracy to commit unlawful damage and unlawful damage.

According to the prosecution, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Sorkpa and his alleged accomplice, Wisdom Ahli, both residents of Kasoa, entered the Parliament House premises disguised as preachers. They carried a handbag concealing an earth chisel, which Sorkpa later used to smash the windscreens and windows of five vehicles, including two Toyota V8 SUVs, two Toyota Camry sedans, and a Toyota RAV4 SUV.

Eyewitnesses reported that Sorkpa claimed he was “sent by God” to carry out the act. While some suggested he may have been mentally unstable, his exact motive remains unclear. Security personnel at the scene quickly intervened, firing warning shots before apprehending the two suspects.

Wisdom Ahli, who is also believed to have played a role in the incident, has been remanded into police custody. His case is scheduled for further hearing on January 9, 2025.
