Cole Kelly, of Houston TX, has been identified as one of the occupants of a Lexus SUV that was in a brutal car accident in the Upper Kirby neighbourhood near River Oaks Elementary School.
The crash occurred in the 2100 block of Kirby Drive near San Felipe Street, right next to River Oaks Elementary School just after 3 a.m. Thursday.
According to reports, a Lexus SUV speeding northbound on Kirby lost control, hit a cub, flipped onto its roof and hit a tree.
Three men in their 20’s were inside the car at the time of the crash. Two died – the driver and a back passenger, while the front passenger survived.
Paramedics had to cut into the vehicle in order to get to the victims.
According to the surviving passenger, the trio were returning from a party where the driver had been drinking. He is currently in hospital in stable condition.
“They were definitely speeding down the road.” said Sgt. David Rose of Houston PD. “This type of SUV and the way that it was sort of launched from the curb couldn’t have happened unless they were going significantly higher than the speed limit,”
Some online reports list one of the victims as a Cole Kelly of Houston. Kelly is a former student-athlete who excelled at baseball and football. It’s unclear if he was the driver, front or back passenger in the car.
