The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, which was recently vandalized by unknown individuals has been repaired.
In some viral videos, a gentleman is seen fixing the damage caused to the statue.
The Ghana Police Service initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this act of vandalism.
In a statement, the police assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the culprits to justice and restore the statue to its original state.
The statue, unveiled in November 2024, was intended to honour several key projects initiated under President Akufo-Addo’s administration in the region, including the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment.
However, its erection sparked heated debates among some residents, who questioned its relevance and appropriateness.
Some people argued that the funds used for the statue could have been redirected to pressing local needs, such as improving healthcare infrastructure at the very hospital where it stands.
