My Government Will Review The Constitution To Discourage Corruption – John Mahama Vows

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing corruption and reducing inefficiencies within the public sector as key strategies for advancing the nation’s development.

In an interview with Germany’s DW TV, Mahama outlined plans for comprehensive reforms aimed at enhancing governance, promoting accountability, and eliminating waste within public institutions.

Acknowledging public frustration over poor resource management, governance shortcomings, and the rising national debt, Mahama identified corruption and inefficiency as major barriers to progress. He stressed the need for structural reforms to establish economic stability and ensure effective leadership.

Central to his vision is the pursuit of constitutional reform.

Mahama remarked, “One of the first things we will do is revisit the constitutional review process and explore how we can restructure the framework to create a more dynamic constitution moving forward.”

He also highlighted the urgency of tackling corruption and waste, emphasizing the need for systemic changes to improve governance.

“How do we refine our governance system to reduce waste resulting from corruption and inefficiency? This is critical for ensuring our economic managers can navigate us away from the current challenges we face, particularly with debt management.” Mahama explained.

Mahama further emphasized the importance of aligning constitutional amendments with the demands of modern governance. He advocated for measures to hold public officials accountable and enforce strict penalties for corrupt practices.
