Austin Dean, Former North Attleboro High School Wrestler Killed in Car Crash

Austin Dean, a former student-athlete for the North Attleboro High School wrestling and football teams has been killed in a car accident.

Dean’s death was revealed by some close figures in his life although yet to be officially confirmed by authorities. The cause of death has yet to be formally confirmed but reports indicate a car accident in Smithfield RI led to his passing.

Dean, 20, was reportedly involved in a motor vehicle collision on Monday, December 16th, 2024 around 5:35 p.m. in the area of 777 Putnam Pike in Smithfield.

He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, as well as a juvenile passenger, survived the crash with injuries and were treated at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro’s Children’s, respectively.

Austin Dean was a wrestling standout at North Attleboro.

“Thoughts with the family of Austin Dean today. Former North Attleboro wrestler passed in a car accident on Monday. Dean graduated from NAHS in 2023 and was made a divisional tournament appearance in his wrestling career. He was also a member of the football team,” said a touching tribute from Tyler Hetu.

Also said Gideon Gaudette with the North Attleboro school committee: “Last evening, I was shocked to hear the horrible news of Austin Dean’s passing. He was a member of NAHS Class of 2023 and he attended Allen Avenue School when I was principal,” said Gaudette. “I remember him as a friendly and kind young man. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and staff members who had an impact on his life. Rest in peace, Austin,”
