Gospel artist, Nancy Harmon has passed away at the age of 85, a post from her social media account Nancy Harmon Ministries and a tribute video from the SonLife broadcasting network has confirmed.
The gospel music guru’s cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s, which she had been battling for a while now.
Over a decades long career, Harmon carved out a niche as an influential figure in gospel music and ministry with her dedication to mentoring young people and spreading the gospel message leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Nancy Harmon was born on September 25, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was raised in a Christian household by her mother after her parents separated, with her religious mom instilling in her a deep love for God from an early age. She began singing in her local church alongside her mother when she was 10 years old. By the age of 13, she had learned to play the Hammond organ, further developing her musical talents.
At 19, Nancy organized her first choir in Kansas City, exposing her talents to the industry. Shortly thereafter, she received a call from Evangelist Kenny Foreman to play the organ for a new church he had established.
In 1968, Nancy Harmon fully committed herself to evangelism and began performing with her group, The Victory Voices. Her powerful performances caught the attention of Jim Bakker, who featured her on his television programs, helping to elevate her profile as a gospel artist.
Television Career
Nancy Harmon is best known for her work with the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), where she launched “The Love Special Telecast” in 1974. This program became a staple of TBN’s lineup and showcased her musical talent while spreading messages of faith and hope. Over the years, she has trained over 1,700 young people in ministry, affectionately referring to them as “Mamma Nancy”
In 2008, she initiated the “Mighty Warrior Training Program,” a rigorous five-week course designed to equip young men and women with biblical teachings and practical ministry skills. This program aims to raise a new generation of leaders who remain steadfast in their faith.
As a prolific songwriter and performer, Nancy Harmon has composed numerous songs that have become integral to worship services across various denominations. Her energetic style and heartfelt lyrics resonate with audiences both in the United States and abroad. She has also been involved in outreach programs, including inner-city initiatives aimed at serving youth and those in need.
Nancy Harmon died on December 13th, 2024. She was 85. She had been placed in hospice care as she battled complications from Alzheimer’s.
