Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has reportedly altered key services she introduced for students of the University of Ghana following her defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Among these changes, the free shuttle service that previously transported students across campus has transitioned into a paid service. Additionally, her free driving school initiative, which provided practical training for students, has been discontinued.
These adjustments come in the wake of her loss to actor and politician John Dumelo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat with a significant margin of over 12,000 votes.
Despite her continued status as MP until the official swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, these changes to her services have sparked criticism. Many students expressed disappointment, citing the abrupt withdrawal of benefits they relied on during her tenure.
Some of the students have called her out for using them to secure votes and after failing to secure the votes, she decided to show them her real intentions.
