Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first-ever female Vice President-elect, has issued a rallying call to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prepare for the immense task ahead. With a tone of determination and optimism, she urged everyone to come on board to achieve the party’s vision for a prosperous and inclusive Ghana.
“The journey is over; the work is about to begin,”she declared on December 9, marking the end of a challenging campaign and the dawn of a new era in Ghanaian politics.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s historic election as the first woman to hold the office of Vice President is a groundbreaking achievement, celebrated as a victory not only for the NDC but for all Ghanaians, particularly women, youth, and mothers. “This victory is for all of us, especially for our daughters, youth, and mothers,” she noted, reflecting on the deeper significance of her win.
In her speech, she pledged to use her position to champion inclusivity and empowerment, promising to pave the way for others. “I will hold the door open, ensuring others can wish to travel through that door. This position is not just about me, it is a position that empowers others,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also emphasized the need for gender equity in building a strong and prosperous nation. “This country is not going to be built by half the gender, and they know very well,” she stated, stressing the importance of everyone contributing to Ghana’s development.
She called on all Ghanaians to take an active role in shaping the future, urging them to work diligently in their respective spheres. “I am counting on all of you to work hard in your spaces,”she appealed, underscoring the collective effort required to achieve lasting progress.
Concluding her address, she offered a heartfelt prayer for the nation’s prosperity and for future generations. “I wish blessings on our country, on our children, on those here and yet to be born,” she declared, inspiring hope and unity.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s election marks a monumental milestone in Ghana’s political history. As the first female Vice President, she has shattered a glass ceiling, inspiring hope for greater representation and equality in leadership. Her victory is a beacon of progress, not just for women and girls, but for the entire nation.
