President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his heartfelt congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his victory in the 2024 presidential election. Despite his party’s loss, Akufo-Addo’s gesture reflects his commitment to upholding Ghana’s democratic principles.
In a phone call to Mahama, Akufo-Addo commended him on his decisive win and pledged his administration’s full cooperation to ensure a smooth transfer of power on January 7, 2025. “I remain committed to facilitating a seamless transition process,” he assured, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful handover.
The congratulatory call comes after the Electoral Commission, led by Chairperson Jean Mensa, officially declared Mahama the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election. Akufo-Addo praised the Electoral Commission for conducting a credible and transparent election and lauded Ghanaians for their active participation, which he described as a testament to the strength of the nation’s democracy.
Calling for unity in the aftermath of the election, Akufo-Addo urged all Ghanaians to work together to consolidate democracy and uphold the rule of law. “This is a time for collaboration and nation-building. I call on all citizens to work in harmony to further strengthen our democracy,” he stated.
To kickstart the transition process, Akufo-Addo has invited President-elect Mahama to a meeting at Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The meeting aims to set the tone for a cooperative and structured handover, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
In his message, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his dedication to good governance and the principles of peace and unity. “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” he concluded, signaling his hope for a collaborative and smooth transition that will further enhance the nation’s democratic legacy.
