Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians following his victory in the 2024 elections, marking a historic political moment for the nation.
In a tweet shared earlier today, Mahama confirmed receiving a congratulatory call from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, his main opponent in the election, who conceded defeat gracefully.
“I have, this morning, received a congratulatory call from my brother Dr @MBawumia, following my emphatic victory in Saturday’s election. Thank you, Ghana,” Mahama wrote.
This development comes after a keenly contested election, where Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a majority of votes, regaining the presidency after eight years. The peaceful call between the two leaders underscores Ghana’s commitment to democratic ideals and a smooth transition of power.
Dr Bawumia, during his press conference to concede defeat, also assured his supporters that he would continue to play a role in Ghana’s political journey, promising a stronger comeback in the future. His acknowledgment of Mahama’s victory has been widely praised as a mark of true statesmanship.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana is yet to officially declare John Mahama as the winner of the 2024 elections.
