Hopeson Adorye, the Director for Special Duties in Alan Kyeremanteng’s Movement of Change, has caused a stir by reportedly taking control of Kotoka International Airport to prevent New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees from leaving the country. This bold action follows the recent general elections, during which coalitions are still being formed to determine the winner.
Adorye made the announcement on social media, declaring, “No government official is travelling from now. I am taking over the airport with immediate effect.” His move is seen by many as a response to allegations of corruption and potential prosecution, with the aim of stopping government officials from fleeing the country.
The situation at the airport has sparked significant concern, raising questions about Adorye’s motivations. While some view his actions as a strategic move to assert influence, the full implications are still unfolding. Adorye’s past, including his controversial dismissal from the KIA VVIP section in 2019 and his firing from the National Security Secretariat in 2022, adds another layer of complexity to the current developments.
Despite the controversy, Adorye has received public support from his wife, renowned Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty, who stands by her husband and their shared values.
