A tragic shooting in Nyankpala, a community in the Tolon constituency of the Northern Region, has left one person dead and another injured. The incident, which occurred on December 7, 2024, has been confirmed by the Ghana Police Service. Four suspects,Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simalia, and Alhaji Bashiru Mohamed,have been arrested and are currently assisting police with investigations.
According to reports, the altercation that led to the shooting began as a heated argument between the Northern Regional Organizer of the NPP, Alhaji Rashid Salifu, and the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Dr. Osman Tahiru Damba. Eyewitnesses claim the confrontation escalated when Dr. Damba accused Alhaji Salifu of distributing money to voters, sparking the violence.
The injured victim is receiving medical care, while the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for preservation and autopsy. The police have assured the public of their commitment to delivering justice and maintaining peace in the region. Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue, with authorities promising to provide further updates as more details emerge.
