The ‘Otumfuo Scandal’ Has Rather Brought Me More Fame And Opportunities, Says Afia Pokua

Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua has shared how a controversial incident at the Manhyia Palace unexpectedly boosted her fame and brought new opportunities. The ordeal began when Afia, a journalist at Agoo TV, publicly criticized the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his perceived inaction during tribal disputes involving the Ashantis and Bonos. Her comments, sparked widespread backlash, with many accusing her of disrespecting the Asantehene.

Despite facing backlash, Afia Pokua has chosen to focus on the positive outcomes that arose from the situation. In a recent interview,  she spoke about the unexpected changes in her life. “The issue gave me exposure I never expected. I won’t focus on the negatives; the positives have been huge. The fame, popularity, and connections I’ve gained are unimaginable,” she said. Afia also shared a personal story of how a chief, who had never met her before, reached out to invite her to be the MC at his birthday, showcasing the new connections she’s made as a result.

The controversy escalated when Afia’s comments led to protests, press conferences, and calls for accountability from the Ashanti community. The situation reached a peak when she was summoned to the Manhyia Palace. There, her apology was rejected, and she was branded as “cursed” by the elders. However, Afia firmly rejected these claims. “I don’t have any curse on my life. I pray like crazy. What the heavens have said concerning my life is what will manifest, not what any human being says,” she asserted, emphasizing her faith in God.
