Otumfuo’s Entourage Attacked In Techiman, Multiple Injured Including Child

Tensions ran high in Techiman on December 2, 2024, as the entourage of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II faced a violent attack while returning from a funeral in Nkoranza. The attack left several individuals, including a child, injured.

The incident occurred as the buses carrying Otumfuo’s convoy traveled through Techiman. According to reports, the attack was allegedly in retaliation for an earlier episode where the Asanteman convoy blocked the highway at Amamfom and reportedly chanted provocative slogans. This act is said to have angered some youth in Techiman, who had earlier threatened to target travelers using the route.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with stones being hurled at the convoy, shattering windows and injuring several passengers. Among the victims was a child who, along with others, received medical attention. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, though the severity of the injuries remains unclear.

In response to viral videos claiming that Otumfuo’s convoy was directly attacked, the Manhyia Palace issued a statement debunking the allegations. They urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

This troubling incident has deepened tensions between the Techiman and Nkoranza communities. Authorities are now working to defuse the situation and prevent any further escalation.
