‘Ghana would’ve Been Like Dubai If I Was Still President – Mahama

Published by

During a special prayer session led by Muslim clerics and imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, December 2, John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed concerns over the lack of significant development under the Akufo-Addo administration, despite the substantial loans secured during its tenure.

Mr. Mahama pointed out that the current government has borrowed approximately $11.5 billion within five years but has failed to achieve the level of development expected with such financial resources. He contrasted this with his administration, which he said utilized $3.5 billion in loans during his four years in office to implement transformative projects, including new harbors, airports, and other critical infrastructure.

“Within five years, [President Akufo-Addo] took a loan of $11.5 billion. I was in power for four years, and all the things we did, new harbors, an airport, and many other projects, were from a $3.5 billion loan,” Mr. Mahama explained.

He further emphasized his belief that, with the same resources available to President Akufo-Addo, his administration could have transformed Ghana into a nation comparable to Dubai. “Ghana would have been like Dubai under me if I got the kind of money Akufo-Addo had,” he stated.
