Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed support for singer Davido following his controversial comments about Nigeria’s economy.
Davido, during his appearance on The Big Homies House podcast in the US, highlighted Nigeria’s economic struggles, stating, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles,” and advised Black Americans against relocating to Nigeria. His remarks sparked backlash from some Nigerians, with many calling for an apology.
However, Kanayo defended Davido’s right to free speech, emphasizing that the singer was speaking out for the less fortunate Nigerians facing economic hardships. In an Instagram video, Kanayo said, “@davido spoke his mind, didn’t he? Respect his views too. The Adelekes can feed for life, but it would be wrong to assume everything is fine just because they are okay. Leave Davido alone over his comment. It’s freedom of speech, and he made the statement in good faith. It is for those in power to work harder to give us a better Nigeria.”
He further added, “Some say he should apologize, but for what? Those who criticize us want the best for us. Davido speaks for Nigerians who cannot even feed.”
