The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 individuals for allegedly brandishing and firing toy guns recklessly in public places, a trend that has raised serious public safety concerns. These incidents occurred in various locations across the country and have been described as a growing menace.
In a statement, the police revealed that the suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will soon be arraigned in court to face justice. A significant quantity of toy guns was seized from the suspects as part of the operation.
The police have also launched special operations to track down others engaged in this act, warning that such behavior constitutes “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace” under section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). They urged the youth to desist from this conduct, emphasizing the legal consequences of their actions.
To reassure the public, the police stated their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order. They encouraged citizens to report similar incidents to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law. “We will do everything necessary to keep our beloved country at peace with herself,” the statement concluded.
