Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has assured Ghanaians that the police are fully committed to maintaining law and order during the December 7 elections. As part of efforts to foster peace and unity, the IGP has been engaging religious communities across the country.
On Sunday, Dr. Dampare led a team of senior police officers to visit several churches in Accra. They began at the Church of Pentecost in Accra Newtown, proceeded to the Methodist Church at Kpeehe, Caprice, and concluded at the Holy Spirit Cathedral at Asylum Down. These visits followed an earlier engagement with the Muslim community on Friday.
Addressing congregants, the IGP emphasized that prayers alone are not enough to secure peace, urging citizens to act as vessels for God’s work. He encouraged Ghanaians to pray for the police, whose duties require wisdom and grace to protect the nation. He also advised individuals to avoid becoming sources of disturbances during the election period and to discourage others from taking the law into their own hands. Lastly, he stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and committed to safeguarding the peace of the country.
At the Holy Spirit Cathedral, the IGP called on the public to support the police by reporting individuals who might seek to disrupt the elections. He highlighted the critical role of community involvement in maintaining national stability.
Very Rev. Father Clement Wilson, Cathedral Administrator of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, prayed for the Police Management Board (POMAB), asking for divine guidance and protection as they work to ensure peaceful elections.
