Ghana Police Arrests Radio Presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu For Publication Of False News

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television host at Wontumi FM in Kumasi, has been detained by the Ghana Police Service for disseminating false information in violation of section 208 of the Criminal charges Act, 1960 (Act 29).

When the Ashanti Regional Police Command invited the Wontumi FM host on November 23, he was arrested right away and is currently being prepared for court

His arrest followed his allegations that registered voters are to vote for different presidential candidates on different days during the upcoming December elections.

The Ghana Police Service called his claims “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

“The Ghana Police Service, has today, 23rd November 2024, arrested suspect Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The suspect is currently in Police custody and the case will be presented before the court for him to face justice.” The official report from Ghana Police read.
