Pastor Love Sent Back To Nsawam Prison After Failing To Meet GHC2 Million Bail

Pastor Love Hammond, a prominent figure in Ghana’s entertainment circles, has been sent back to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison after failing to meet the bail conditions set by the Accra High Court. Although granted bail of GHC2 million on November 15, 2024, Pastor Love was unable to fulfill the court’s requirements immediately, leading to his return to custody.

The bail terms required him to provide two sureties who could justify their assets with landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. In addition, he was mandated to surrender his passport to the court registry and report to the police every Tuesday until his appeal is resolved.

Pastor Love’s legal issues trace back to a long-standing dispute involving the sale of a car owned by a friend, Samuel Amankwah. The case dates to 2016 when Amankwah entrusted Pastor Love with the vehicle, requesting that he clear it through customs with a promise to reimburse the costs. However, Pastor Love sold the car without Amankwah’s approval and did not account for the proceeds. This led to his conviction in October 2024 on charges of theft, misappropriation, and dishonesty, resulting in a four-year prison sentence.

Despite this setback, his lawyer, Kwame Yeboah, remains optimistic about meeting the bail requirements. “We are working diligently to secure the required properties and documentation,” Yeboah said, encouraging Pastor Love to remain patient.

The case has sparked widespread public debate, with mixed reactions from Ghanaians. While some view the outcome as a step toward justice, others sympathize with Pastor Love and hope for a favorable outcome in his appeal.
