Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has appealed to Ghanaians to maintain peace and uphold democratic values during the upcoming general elections. Speaking to journalists on November 17, 2024, Kufuor underscored the importance of respecting the election results to safeguard the country’s democracy.
“It is essential for everyone to vote calmly and exercise their rights peacefully on election day. Electoral violence is unacceptable, and I hope for a smooth and peaceful election process,” he stated.
Kufuor reminded Ghanaians that ultimate power lies with the people, urging them to prioritize unity and peace regardless of the election outcome. “We must recognize that true power belongs to the populace. It is crucial to accept the results, no matter our personal preferences. I encourage all parties involved to prioritize peace throughout the election,” he added.
This message comes at a pivotal time as Ghana gears up for its general elections on December 7, 2024. The contest features Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Kufuor’s appeal serves as a timely reminder of the need for a peaceful and democratic process.
He also emphasized the significance of respecting democratic principles and the rule of law. “We must ensure the electoral process remains free, fair, and transparent. These are the pillars of our nation’s stability and progress”
