Lucas Garbarino, a Holland MI high schooler has tragically died after a rock climbing accident while visiting relatives in Utah.
Garbarino, a senior at West Ottawa High School in Holland, was visiting his father’s family when he decided to go rock climbing and fell. The 17-year-old wrestling and football star did not survive the fall.
His family has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to aid in his memorial, which would be held in Utah.
“Marissa and Gabe have decided to lay Lucas to rest in Utah. Utah was a special place that Lucas loved and it is the current home of Lucas’ paternal uncle, aunt, and cousins. The Utah visitation, funeral, and burial will be held on Monday, November 18th starting at 1pm at Leavitt’s Mortuary & Memorial Park in Ogden, Utah,” the fundraiser revealed. “If you wish to make a donation to support Marissa, Gabe, Caleb, Josiah, and Charlotte, please feel free to use this Go Fund Me as one option.” The fundraiser has amassed just over $11,000 out of its $15,000 goal.
Following his Utah memorial, a separate celebration of life will be held in Michigan later in the month.
Friends shared tributes to Lucas over his untimely demise, with many celebrating him for his kindness.
“This hurts my heart so much… Lucas you are so loved. Lucas was the little brother I didn’t know I needed. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Garbarino for having such an amazing son, my family is so lucky we got so much time with him. I’m so sorry for your loss & I am praying for your family.” said Brande Dishinger.
