Brian Steven Yates, a Maryville TN man is dead and his estranged partner left in critical condition following an attempted murder-suicide in Maryville on Thursday, November 14th, 2024.

Maryville Police Department officers and Deputies from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Blount County Adult Probation Office located at 1006 East Lamar Alexander Parkway regarding an active shooter situation.

Authorities discovered two gunshot wound victims. Investigations revealed Brian Steven Yates, 39, shot his estranged partner and mother of his two children, Rikki Nicole Allen, 43, once in the head before attempting to take his own life with a similar shot.

Yates was pronounced dead on the scene but Allen was transported UT Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.

According to reports, the two share two kids who they co-parent.

The Maryville Police Department said in a statement that “Several Probation officers and probationers were present at the time of the incident; however, no other injuries were reported. The victim and the offender were both shot once with the same .38 revolver, which was recovered at the scene.”
