A student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) attempted suicide earlier today, according to conversations by other students on the school’s r/UCI subreddit.
The reported self-harm attempt occurred at the school’s health sciences parking structure where police and emergency service personnel congregated throughout the day and the school informed students to stay away from via zotAlerts.
Timeline of events
Chronicling of the alleged suicide attempt by a UCI student at the health sciences parking structure started just before 1:pm PST when a post appeared on the subreddit titled: “someone threatening to jump off parking structure”
Sharing an update they received from the Citizen app, the poster started asking questions about what could possibly be going on.
A zotAlert sent out around that time also notified students of police activity at the health sciences parking structure with a directive to avoid the area.
One person explained what they heard was going on: “Not sure if that has happened, but someone is on the roof of the parking structure. Hope no one takes any quick action.”
A further zotAlert sent out around 5;27 p.m. PST provided an update that the incident was over without going into further details. Further comments on reddit said the crisis had passed and the individual involved was safe.
“He has come down and is safe…He is my cousin. My dad has talked to his mom,” one user said.
The school had yet to make a comment on the situation at the time of publishing this report.
