The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has announced the dismissal of his nephew, Baltasar Ebang Engonga Avomo, from his position in the country’s government.
Baltasar was the head of Equatorial Guinea’s financial irregularities agency, known as the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).
The ANIF boss, popularly known as Bello in the country, has found himself in hot water in recent weeks after he was investigated for corruption and misconduct.
During the investigation into his alleged misconduct, a bigger issue arose when over 400 videos were discovered on his personal computer, most of which depicted him engaging in coitus with women.
Some of the women were discovered to be the wives of very prominent and high profile figures in the Equatorial Guinean government, as well as some with personal ties to him.
The videos went viral all over the world and Baltasar was suspended from his position and arrested.
On Thursday, November 7th, the President issued a directive firing Engonga from his position for alleged misconduct in office, alongside family and social behaviour deemed incompatible with public office.
Baltasar is the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, the head of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) Commission and a former Finance Minister. He is also a nephew to the sitting President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbagoso.
