East Legon Accident – Juvenile Court Remands Salifu Amoako’s Son Again

Published by

Elrad Amoako, the 16-year-old son of Archbishop Salifu Amoako, has been remanded in custody once again after appearing before the Accra Juvenile Court. Elrad is facing eight charges, including manslaughter, negligent harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license, after a tragic incident on October 12, 2024, in East Legon that claimed two lives.

According to Assistant State Attorney Ebenezer Yaw Acquah, Elrad’s family frequently allowed him access to their vehicles despite his young age and lack of a driving license. The events unfolded following a birthday party held for his brother at an event center in East Legon, where Elrad reportedly asked Linda Bonsu Bempah, a family friend, for the keys to his mother’s Jaguar F-Pace. He then left the party, meeting up with friends who arrived in two SUVs, forming a convoy with Elrad in the lead.

As they reached a section of Dzane-Ashie Road, Elrad allegedly accelerated, intending to show off the speed and power of the Jaguar. The prosecutor stated that Elrad drove recklessly, disregarding other vehicles and road safety. As he approached a T-junction on Mensah Wood Avenue, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed violently into the rear of an Acura. The impact sent both vehicles hurtling across the street and into a wall, taking down an ECG pole before both cars burst into flames.

Though Elrad and his passenger managed to escape, two young girls in the Acura lost their lives tragically.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before the Family and Juvenile Court during his first appearance.

It is uncertain whether the juvenile has been sent to a correctional centre or has been committed to the care of his parents in line with section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act , 2003 (ACT 653) since the case was not opened to the public.

His case has been adjourned to November 13, 2024, when further proceedings are scheduled.
