A reported su*c*de occurred at the Geisel Library on the campus of the University of California San Diego (UCSD) on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024.
According to reports, someone jumped/fell in the stairwell.
Eyewitnesses reported what they saw in posts shared to the UCSD subreddit.
“…a terrible incident happened in Geisel. Someone, somehow, fell in the stairwell in the library. There are currently 4 cops outside the building…I won’t share the gore of the situation but it was intense…this all happened at 11:35,” the post read.
Four police cars from the University of California Police Department were spotted at the scene following the incident. Triton CORE, a mobile response team that supports students experiencing behavioral health crises, also had vehicles on the scene.
Students on the subreddit spoke of silence from authorities regarding the incident. School authorities eventually sent out a Community alert around 1:45 p.m. and a bulletin to all staff, students, and personnel at approximately 3:15 p.m., announcing the death and closing Geisel for the rest of Wednesday.
“Emergency responders, including police, are currently managing the situation. There is no threat to the campus community,” the email read.
It added that the “the individual was not enrolled as a student.”
