“Them No Build Hospital Finish, Them Build Statue” – Peeps React As President Akufo-Addo Unveils Statue In His Honor At Effia-Nkwanta

Published by

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially unveiled a statue of himself at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, as part of his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region on November 6, 2024. In his address to the residents, the president proudly claimed that he has fulfilled 80% of his promises to Ghanaians, with the statue being his latest “gift” to the nation.

According to the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, the statue is a tribute to Akufo-Addo’s “amazing” contributions to the region. These “amazing” contributions apparently include the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital (which, unfortunately, isn’t fully completed), the construction of a three-tier Sinohydro interchange (still under construction), and the redevelopment of Takoradi Market Circle (which, let’s be honest, could use a little more attention).

President Akufo-Addo boasted about the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, calling it his “most significant legacy.” He encouraged Ghanaians to cast their votes for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 elections, arguing that a vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would guarantee the continuation of his unfinished projects.

The unveiling of the statue, however, has sparked a wave of criticism. While a few might be impressed by the president’s “self-tribute,” many are questioning the timing and necessity of erecting a statue when several key projects remain incomplete. It’s safe to say, not everyone is as thrilled about the statue as the president might have hoped.
