Chauncy Glover was a prominent American news anchor and journalist, known for his impactful storytelling and dedication to community service.
Born in Athens, Alabama, he developed a passion for journalism at a young age, which led him to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Troy University.
Glover had a distinguished career, working for among others, WTVM in Georgia and CBS 47 in Jacksonville, Florida, before he made significant strides at WDIV in Detroit and later at KTRK ABC-13 in Houston.
Throughout his career, Glover received numerous accolades, including three Emmy Awards, as well as establishing the Chauncy Glover Project (CGP) dedicated to mentoring young men particularly young men of color.
Glover passed away at the age of 39 on November 5, 2024.
Chauncy Glover was born and raised in Athens, Alabama, where his passion for journalism ignited at a young age. At just five years old, he was inspired by his father, who built him a mini “anchor desk.” This early introduction to broadcasting led him to perform newscasts for his family every Sunday after church, fueling his dream of becoming a news anchor.
Glover pursued higher education at Troy University in Alabama, where he studied Broadcast Journalism, Music, and Theatre. He also earned a degree in Public Relations. His academic background laid a solid foundation for his future career in journalism, allowing him to blend storytelling with performance arts.
Career
Chauncy Glover began his professional career just two days after graduating from Troy University. His first job was as a reporter at WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia. After two years there, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked for CBS 47 and Fox 30 as a Special Projects and General Assignment reporter. During this time, he gained recognition for breaking exclusive stories and received several awards for his impactful reporting
In 2015, Glover relocated to Houston, Texas, where he began as a weekend morning anchor at KTRK ABC-13. He made history in 2018 by becoming the station’s first Black male main evening anchor. Throughout his tenure in Houston, he continued to produce special in-depth reports while furthering the mission of CGP.
In October 2023, Glover joined the KCAL News team in Los Angeles as a co-anchor for the 5 and 11 PM newscasts alongside Pat Harvey and Suzie Suh.
Awards and Recognitions
Chauncy Glover won numerous accolades throughout his career including three Emmy Awards, one for his compelling storytelling while reporting on Hurricane Harvey, during which he rescued woman in labor, helping deliver the baby. He was recognized by President Barack Obama and My Brothers Keeper, for his mentoring work.
Chauncy was also recognized as one of Houston’s Top Black Professionals, in the Top 40 under 40. The National Association of Black Journalists awarded him the Angelo B. Henderson Community Service Award, for the positive impact of his work on the community outside the realm of journalism.
Personal Life
Chauncy Glover was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He often traveled across the country as a motivational speaker, sharing his experiences and encouraging young people to pursue their dreams. Glover’s life motto was “Fear stops where faith begins,” reflecting his belief in overcoming challenges through faith and determination.
Death
Tragically, Chauncy Glover passed away at the age of 39 on November 5, 2024.
His death was announced by KCAL News, as well as in a statement from his family describing him as “a beacon of light” who inspired many through both his journalistic work and philanthropic efforts. No cause of death was given.
