Career

Afshar proceeded to join St. Jude Medical in March 2011 as a product engineer, before he went on to work as a Manager of HV Operations and Group Leader on Strategic Business Operations. He left the facility in January 2017 after almost six years.
In 2017, Afshar transitioned to Abbott Laboratories, taking on the role of Manager for High Voltage Operations and Operations Business Systems. His responsibilities involved managing complex operational systems and optimizing high-voltage operations within the company.

Afshar joined Tesla in 2017, initially working in the Office of the CEO. His role involved supporting Elon Musk directly across various business functions. He quickly became an integral part of Tesla’s leadership team, overseeing significant projects including the construction of Tesla’s 10-million-square-foot factory in Texas known as the ‘Gigafactory’. His ability to align closely with Musk’s vision positioned him as a key player within the company.
In late 2022, Afshar faced scrutiny due to an internal investigation at Tesla regarding suspicious expenditures related to a project dubbed “Project 42,” which involved construction materials for Musk’s private residence. As a result, he was temporarily reassigned to SpaceX as Vice President of Starship Production, where he oversaw the production of SpaceX’s ambitious Starship spacecraft, crucial for interplanetary travel.
Afshar returned to Tesla in 2024 and was promoted to Vice President overseeing sales and vehicle manufacturing in North America and Europe, replacing Tom Zhu.
