Kevon Walker, Buffalo NY Football Star & SFU Freshman Tragically Passes Away

Kevon Walker, a Buffalo native and former Canisius High School football star, has unexpectedly died.

Walker’s death occurred Monday, November 4th, 2024 and was announced by Saint Francis University (SFU), which he had joined in Summer 24′ to continue his academic and sporting development. No cause of death was stated.

“The entirety of the department is heartbroken over the tragic and untimely loss of Kevon,” said Director of Athletics James Downer. “Although his time at Saint Francis was short, he made a positive impact on the football program, was well-liked and respected among the team, and showed the promise of a very bright future with the Red Flash.”

Downer extended the school’s thoughts and condolences to Kevon’s family, loved ones, teammates, and coaches “during this incredibly challenging time.”

The University canceled all classes for Tuesday, November 5 as a result of the tragedy. Guidance and counselling resources and personell were made available to help distraught students.

Before joining the Red Flash, Walker was a star football player for Canisius High School and before that, Burgard High School. At Canisius, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman was a 2023 first-team All-Catholic selection, earning him a scholarship to Division I St. Francis.

Canisius had a beautiful tribute to pay to Walker upon hearing news of his tragic demise.

“We mourn the sudden passing of Walker, who was in his freshman year at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.” the school’s statement began.

“Kevon was a larger-than-life presence in so many ways in our building,” said Principal Tom Coppola ’01. “His graduation from Canisius High School was such a great day for he and his family, it was awesome on that day to see him so proud. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.”
