The Adabraka Market in Accra was thrown into chaos on Saturday, November 2, 2024, when a bold daytime robbery took place. Four masked and heavily armed men targeted a man sitting in a red Toyota Corolla parked close to the lively market. According to witnesses, the robbers approached with guns drawn, firing several shots into the air to clear the area. Frightened shoppers and vendors ran for cover, hiding behind stalls or fleeing as gunfire rang out.
The robbers forced their way into the parked vehicle and quickly loaded large sacks, believed to contain cash, into their own car before making a rapid getaway, leaving onlookers shocked and helpless. According to JoyNews, the victim who was a customer of an Accra-based gold jeweller was robbed of more than GHs6 million.
Videos taken by bystanders soon spread on social media, capturing the robbers’ swift actions and the panic that engulfed the market.
The Ghana Police Service has since initiated a search for the suspects and promised to bring them to justice. Police are also calling on the public to provide any information that could help in their investigation.
