Published by

Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott recently revealed her harrowing 12-year struggle with chronic kidney disease in a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. Diagnosed at stage three, the condition later advanced to stage four, a development that has taken a heavy toll on her life and family.

Reflecting on how the disease has impacted her, Ufuoma opened up about her constant fear of gaining weight, explaining, “My weight, people do not understand when I say I cannot afford to put on weight. I do not want to die. I have little children. I had pushed my body, and it was borderline stage 4.” Despite doctors’ advice to take a step back, she admitted to pushing herself at work, which worsened her health struggles. “Last year was a very trying time in my life where I thought I was going to die,” she shared, recounting one of her most difficult periods.

The actress also shared that her condition was caused by the excessive use of painkillers, which she described as “drug abuse.” For six long months, she was confined to bed, unable to work or regain her strength, often fearing that her life was coming to an end.

Now, looking back on her experience, Ufuoma emphasized the importance of following medical advice and prioritizing one’s health. Her journey stands as a testament to the strength and resilience required to cope with chronic illness while carrying on with a public life.
