“It’s About The Economy Stupid” – Mahama Fires Back At Bawumia’s 50 Questions

Former President John Dramani Mahama has responded to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s challenge, tackling the 50 questions posed to him in their recent political exchange. Speaking during his Northern Regional campaign tour in Savelugu on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Mahama urged Dr. Bawumia to focus on answering the five key economic questions he initially raised, instead of deflecting with a lengthy list of counter-questions and calls for a debate.

Mahama likened the Vice President’s response to a child repeating a newly learned rhyme, saying, “I asked you five simple questions on the economy—questions that Ghanaians care about. But instead, you respond with questions about unrelated projects. That’s not what’s important to the people right now.”

Drawing a comparison to the 1992 U.S. election between Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr., Mahama reminded his audience that, during a time of recession, Clinton’s campaign slogan emphasized the economy. “It’s the economy, stupid,” he said, echoing the famous phrase, “This election should be about the economy, not distractions over who built what.”

Mahama closed by urging Dr. Bawumia to directly address his original questions, as he believes they reflect the core issues affecting Ghanaians today.
