This comment was perceived as a reference to an incident involving explosions linked to Hezbollah members in Lebanon, resulting in numerous casualties.
The exchange escalated quickly, with Hasan questioning whether Girdusky was implying that he should die. Following this incident, Girdusky was removed from the panel mid-segment. CNN subsequently issued a statement condemning his remarks as unacceptable and announced that he would no longer be invited back to the network.
Girdusky defended himself on social media, claiming his comments were a joke. “You can stay on CNN if you falsely call every Republican a Nazi and have taken money from Qatar-funded media. Apparently you can’t go on CNN if you make a joke. I’m glad America gets to see what CNN stands for,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Girdusky’s comments have sparked widespread outrage, with many commentators and public figures claiming the comments are indicative of a broader issue of racism within conservative media discourse. Others defended him rigorously, pointing to mainstream media bias against conservatives and pointing out problematic past comments from Hasan himself.
