“Voting For Mahama Means No More ‘Allawa’ ”- NAPO Warns Nursing Trainees

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged trainee nurses nationwide to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure the continuation of their monthly allowance.

He cautioned trainee nurses against supporting John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that the NDC doesn’t support the allowances given to nursing and teacher trainees. He told them that a vote for the NDC could mean the end of their monthly allowance, warning, “Former President John Mahama and the NDC do not believe in the nursing trainee allowance. If they win, they will cancel it, making life harder for you. So reject the NDC,” he said while addressing students at the Korle Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training Institute in Accra on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Additionally, he promised that the next NPP government would grant nurses duty-free importation of vehicles with engine capacities under 1.8 liters.

“Dr. Bawumia, the incoming president of Ghana, will provide free duty on vehicles with engine capacities less than 1.8 capacity for nurses,” NAPO said. “The NPP recognizes and appreciates the key roles that our nurses play in the provision of healthcare to the people, so we shall also make sure that your lives will be better.

“As I said already, there will be free importation of vehicles with engines less than 1.8 capacity for our dear nurses among other important interventions to make you (nurses) live better and comfortably,” he added.

He concluded by calling on nurses and nursing trainees to support Dr. Bawumia and all 275 NPP parliamentary candidates, saying, “The NPP cares for our nurses.”
