Savannah Grace Copeland, GoFundMe Started for 13-year-old Girl Stabbed to Death In Powell TN

Savannah Grace Copeland, a 13 year old girl was the victim of a gruesome murder in Powell, Tennessee that shocked the local community.

Copeland was stabbed multiple times and killed by a 15-year-old boy. He was identified as Malakiah Lamar Harris.

He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond until trial.

The community of Powell Tennessee was shocked to the bone when Knox County Sheriff’s Office anounced a victim’s body was found on a trail Tuesday afternoon in the Broadacres subdivision of Powell, just outside of Knoxville.

Court records reveal the victim and the perp met up sometime shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

“During the interaction, the defendant used a pocketknife he carried with him to stab the victim multiple times, killing her,” court documents read. “He left her at the location without notifying anyone, and she was subsequently discovered deceased later in the day by citizens.”

Authorities did not identify the deceased but a GoFundMe started by her family identified her as Savannah Grace Copeland.

“Savannah Grace Copeland, beloved child of Michael and Amanda Copeland, now rests peacefully with the Lord after leaving this earth too soon. Savannah, only 13 years old, was the victim of a vicious murder in the early hours of October 22, 2024,” the fundraiser began. “Savannah was a joy to her parents, brother Britton and twin brother Kasey, family, and friends. She lost her young life in a senseless manner leaving behind her devastated family. Her parents and siblings are now not only facing a life without her but are also contending with funeral expenses and loss of income. Please consider donating to help this family as they cope with this unimaginable tragedy.”

According to her obituary, Savannah Grace Copeland was born to Michael and Amanda Copeland on September 3, 2011, alongside her twin brother Kasey. She attended Powell Middle School and was a talented student and athlete. Savannah competed in gymnastics and karate and was an accomplished cheerleader. Her dream was to become a forensic anthropologist.

A memorial service for the late teen will be held at Powell United Methodist Church, located at 323 W. Emory Rd. in Powell on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
