35-Year-Old Mother Allegedly Sells Two-Week-Old Baby for GHC300 in Sekondi-Takoradi

A 35-year-old woman, Mena Efua, is accused of selling her two-week-old baby for GHC300 in Nkotompo, a community in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region. Her sister, Maame Esi, confirmed the incident during an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show. She revealed that she assisted her sister with the delivery last Monday, but the baby has since gone missing.

“I assisted her to deliver last week Monday at home. After a week, the baby is nowhere to be found. I interrogated her, and she confessed to giving the baby to an unnamed person for GHC300, but has refused to disclose the identity of the person,” Maame Esi explained.

She further stated that her sister initially claimed she had handed the baby over to a nurse who promised to find a buyer, but has since declined to reveal the nurse’s identity. “Initially she said she handed over the baby to a nurse who promised to sell the baby for her, but she has refused to name her. She is now telling us the baby is currently in Accra but can’t lead us to the exact place. We are currently looking for help to find the whereabouts of the baby,” she added.

According to her elder sister, the baby’s whereabouts have been unknown for almost three weeks since the delivery. Information obtained by Connect FM indicates that Mena Efua gave the baby to someone who assured her they would find a buyer, but that person returned only with GHC300 after the transaction.

The case was first reported at the Sekondi Police Station and was subsequently referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).
