Colin Monahan, Freehold Boro Alum and Wrestling Coach Mourned Following Unexpected Death

Colin Monahan, a former student of the Freehold Boro High School turned coach of the wrestling team, has been reported dead.

Monahan’s death was revealed by Freehold Boro Wrestling, the team he coached and formerly competed on in a tear-inducing tribute on social media. No cause of death was revealed.

“The Freehold Boro Wrestling team mourns the loss of one of our own, Colin Monahan (Class of 2015).” the tribute began.

Monahan was a former wrestling champion for the school, winning a district championship his senior year (2015) and becoming only the 5th Freehold Boro high school athlete to notch 100 wins.

“Colin was a talented wrestler and made his mark on the record books for the Colonials. Colin captured a District Championship as a senior, and he was the fifth wrestler from Freehold Boro to compile 100 wins,” Freehold Boro Wrestling said.

Following his high school exploits, Monahan attended Ursinus College. After his education, he returned to Frehold Boro where he became an assistant at the High School, coaching for several seasons under Coach Shep. He was adjudged District Coach of the Year in 2022.

Many students and parents who dealt with him were shocked by the news and praised him for his impact on their lives.

Such tributes were flowing on social media such as: “He was so instrumental in bringing wrestling into our lives. More importantly, he brought us a forever love friendship with his family 💔🖤”

Another person said: “💔💔💔💔Such an amazing coach and friend to my son, he will be missed🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼”
