Emily Newton, Flemington Woman Severely Injured in Freak Garden State Parkway Accident

Emily Newton, a Flemington woman is currently battling serious injuries sustained following a freak car accident on the Garden State Parkway Thursday afternoon.

Newton, 21, was driving southbound on Lakehurst Road in South Toms River when a spare wheel from another vehicle headed northbound came loose, crossed the concrete barrier into the southbound lanes and struck the windshield and roof of her Volkswagen Sedan.

The collision unfortunately left Emily Newton with several serious injuries and left her in shock. Numerous cars stopped immediately on the road to help her after witnessing the astounding circumstances of the crash.

A witness told the radio station, New Jersey 101.5, that they stopped along with other cars to provide help to the injured Newton before the arrival of first responders.

“I pulled over in the middle lane with all the other cars. I ran up to the vehicle. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. Her body was contorted, the window is shattered. It ripped the entire roof off the vehicle,” the eyewitness said.

He added that Newton accidentally hit her gas pedal while still in shock, sending her VW into a pick-up that had parked in front of her to help.

“She wasn’t really with it. She was really she was in shock,” the eyewitness said.

State police are asking anyone who saw the tire come off the vehicle or who otherwise witnessed the crash to contact the New Jersey State Police Troop “D” Galloway Station Detective Bureau at 732-441-4500, ext. 5916.
