John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, has made it clear that he will not debate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s candidate. This comes after President Nana Akufo-Addo challenged Mahama to debate Bawumia on important national issues before the December 7 elections.
Speaking at a rally in Prampram during his campaign in the Greater Accra Region, Mahama defended his time as president and rejected the idea of a debate. He said debating Bawumia wouldn’t improve the conversation and that his achievements as president should speak for themselves.
Mahama also criticized Bawumia’s handling of the economy, pointing out the struggles Ghanaians are facing under the current government. He said a debate would only give Bawumia more attention than he deserves.
“Nana Akufo-Addo was asking me why I’m refusing to debate Bawumia. You know, Bawumia doesn’t deserve a debate. He is losing this election. I will not elevate him to my level and go and sit and debate him.
“Their campaign is failing. They have no message and so, he wants to be elevated to my level. No. No. No. No. I know my level,” Mahama said.
