Afrobeat singer Oxlade has shared that, despite being a Nigerian artist, he feels more love and support from Ghana than from his own country.
Speaking during a recent interview, Oxlade explained his decision to feature Ghanaian hip-hop legend Sarkodie on his debut album, Oxlade from Africa.
In the interview, Oxlade also addressed earlier posts he made on X, where he mentioned being boycotted and blackmailed by certain “OGs” in the industry. He clarified that these posts stemmed from his frustration with individuals in the Nigerian music scene who try to control others’ careers.
“If I’m being honest, Ghana has shown me more love than Nigeria,” Oxlade said. He added, “I hate the mindset of people trying to play god, thinking they can determine your success. Some even feel offended if they think I don’t greet them properly when we meet.”
