Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, is being sued for GH¢5 million by actress Martha Ankomah for defamation. The case is now moving forward after efforts to settle it outside of court failed. Back in July, both sides were trying to reach an agreement, which caused the court to delay the case.
However, on 15 October 2024, Martha Ankomah’s lawyer, Nii Apatu Plange, said, “We made our proposals to the intermediary, but he later informed us that it did not seem the defendant was ready for settlement, so I will say that settlement could not be achieved.” Because of this, he asked the court to continue with the case.
Justice Forson Agyapong Baah postponed the hearing to 5 November 2024, with the trial starting at 8:30 a.m. The judge also ordered that notices be sent to the defendant. Martha Ankomah attended the session, but LilWin and his lawyers were not present.
The defamation suit centers on a viral video in which LilWin is accused of making remarks that Martha Ankomah believes damaged her professional reputation. Among the statements, LilWin allegedly suggested that Ankomah was unwilling to work with Kumawood actors, which she views as defamatory. In her statement, Ankomah described herself as “a distinguished actress who has featured in a number of movie productions both in Ghana and Nigeria for more than 20 years.”
Martha Ankomah is asking for GH¢5 million in damages for the harm caused by these remarks. With the trial set to begin on 5 November, both sides are getting ready to present their cases. Ankomah is determined to clear her name and hold LilWin accountable for his statements.
