Akua Donkor Threatens To Sue Mahama For GH¢2 Trillion Over Derogatory Comment

Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has threatened to sue former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer due to her dissatisfaction with what she described as derogatory remarks about her qualifications for the 2024 election, seeking 2 trillion cedis (GHC 2 million) in damages.

This follows comments by Mahama, where he questioned the eligibility of some presidential candidates, including Akua Donkor, to be on the ballot. His remarks during a recent campaign tour caused outrage, with Akua Donkor feeling that Mahama had no right to question her candidacy.

“If Mahama claims to be an ex-president, I will take him to court. I will sue him for 2 trillion cedis. Why would he say I do not merit to appear on the ballot?” Akua Donkor stated at the IPAC meeting.

Former President Mahama’s controversial remarks were focused on the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify some candidates, such as Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC), while allowing others to remain on the ballot. “The PNC is more worthy than several parties that I see on the ballot paper. That is the issue we have with this Electoral Commission; sometimes, they are discriminatory,” Mahama said.

In response, Akua Donkor emphasized that she plans to serve the Electoral Commission with a writ and firmly believes that, as a Ghanaian citizen, she deserves a place on the ballot like any other candidate. “I take strong offense at what he said,” she concluded.
