Braden Johns, a popular horse rider and trainer was involved in a serious horse accident during the ongoing NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity that has left him in critical condition.
Johns, of Scottsdale Arizona, was performing at the event that features 3-year-old horses showcasing their athleticism in herd work, rein work and fence work, when things went wrong.
He suffered a serious injury in the accident and had to be transported to hospital where latest reports place him in critical condition.
Johns’ situation was announced by the Arizona Cutting Horse Association in a post that called for prayers to help him recover.
“Please pray for our friend and fellow trainer Braden Johns who was involved in a serious horse accident this morning at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity,” the Arizona Cutting Horse Association announced. “We are asking for prayers for a miracle recovery, strength and comfort for his family, and God’s protection during this difficult time.”

Taking a step further, some friends started a GoFundMe to raise money to help cover Braden Johns’ medical bills. The Texas Tech graduate, originally from Lovington NM, was recently engaged to Hannah Swanbom and friends decided to come together to help the couple survive this challenge with the least bit of financial disruption.
Allison Bowen, the organizer of the GoFundMe, said the fundraiser is to help the engaged couple focus fully on the important bit of his recovery and not have to worry about the financial burden.
“…the medical bills will be significant, and we want to ensure Braden & his fiancé Hannah can focus on getting Braden well without the added burden of financial stress,” Bowen said on GoFundMe. “Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference.”
The fundraiser is seeking a modest $10,000 in donations.
Braden Johns operates the Braden Johns Performance Center in Scottsdale, where he “trains aged event, weekend, and Futurity Reined Cowhorses and Cutting horses”, according to his bio.
