Fatal VIP Bus Accident Claims 14 Lives Including A Toddler and Two Minors On Akrokerri-Obuasi Road

A tragic accident early Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, claimed the lives of 14 people, including a toddler and two other minors, when a VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Samreboi veered off the road and plunged into a river near Kwapia on the Akrokerri-Obuasi road in the Ashanti Region.

Police confirmed that the victims included seven males, five females, and the three children who were on board the bus. All but one of the victims died instantly at the scene. The driver, identified as Osei Adu, was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away shortly after his arrival due to the severity of his injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, registered ER 2445-11, had become overloaded after picking up several stranded passengers from another bus that had broken down earlier on the route. The overcrowding may have led to tensions among passengers, potentially distracting the driver and contributing to the fatal crash.

In the aftermath, the injured survivors are receiving medical treatment and police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
