Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, has passionately spoken out against the devastating effects of illegal mining, also known as galamsey, on Ghana’s environment. He expressed deep concern over how the country’s political leadership and citizens have allowed this destructive activity to continue unchecked, leading to the degradation of precious natural resources.

During a recent sermon, the Archbishop shared images of the Lena River in Russia and the Yukon River in Canada—both rich in gold and other minerals. He pointed out that, unlike in Ghana, these rivers remain untouched due to strong leadership and a commitment to preserving the environment for future generations. He contrasted this with the situation in Ghana, where many of the rivers, once clean and vibrant, have been reduced to murky, unsafe streams due to the impact of illegal mining.

The Archbishop reminded everyone that Christians are stewards of the land and should care for God’s creation. He said he wanted to add his voice to the many others calling for an end to galamsey. He also mentioned that the damaged lands can recover if action is taken quickly, and over time, they can grow back.

He finished by praying for wisdom for the country’s leaders so that the land can be saved and restored for future generations.
