Hussein Murray, a Rochester Hills Michigan man who was murdered by two men posing as a DTE Energy crew, is being mourned by his family.

Murray, 72, was murdered in his own basement by the two suspects who are currently the subject of a police manhunt.

His wife was also duct-taped by the criminals.

Authorities are yet to make a formal identification in the case but the victim’s grandson revealed his name on social media. Hussein Murray owned a jewelry business – Gold & Glitter Jewelry in Hamtramck in Wayne County – which might have made him the target of a robbery.

“My grandfather, Hussein Murray, was murdered in a home invasion/robbery earlier today. My grandmother was beaten, but she is currently in stable condition and safe,” Tarek Murray, an Oakland University grad, wrote on Facebook.

“They didn’t deserve this. It’s just not fair. I can’t believe they would do this. I’m so broken right now. Please keep my family in your thoughts during this unbelievably difficult time 😭😭.”

Hussein Abdu Murray graduated Hamtramck High School as did his wife, Linda Merchut. Murray’s Gold & Glitter Jewelry, according to its description, specialized “in the highest quality gold and diamond jewelry, luxury watches, custom diamond pieces, and exotic 21K gold.”

Police were called to a home in the 3700 block of Newcastle Drive on Friday, October 11th.

The homeowner’s wife made the call and reported two men had broken into their home, tied her up and murdered her husband.

Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies said the suspects managed to gain access to the home by posing as a DTE Energy crew.

They visited the property first on Thursday around 10 p.m. but weren’t allowed inside. They returned Friday around noon, gained access this time, then walked into the basement with the homeowner by claiming there was a gas leak.

The homeowner went to the basement with them to check where the leak may be but was then murdered.

“They said there was a gas leak, they let them in and the husband went with them downstairs to check if and where the gas leak may be, and she never saw him again,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

The suspects searched the house following the murder. It’s currently unclear what was taken but the victim owned a jewelry business in Wayne County.

The suspects have been described as a skinny Black man and a heavyset Latino man.

A manhunt is currently on for them and authorities are considering them armed and dangerous.
