“Don’t Bother Campaigning Here, We’ll Vote Against You” – Furious Galamsey Operator Vows After His Excavator Is Burnt

Published by

An illegal miner, frustrated by the recent government crackdown on galamsey, has threatened to lead his community in voting against the NPP in the upcoming December 7, 2024 general elections. This reaction followed a military taskforce’s decision to burn the excavator he used for his mining activities.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the miner expressed his anger at President Akufo-Addo’s ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal mining. He vowed that the NPP would face consequences at the polls, stating, “We will stop campaigning for the party, whether they like it or not, we will vote against them during the general elections. We won’t allow them to campaign in this area. Look at what they have done to this excavator, why should they burn it?”

As part of efforts to crackdown on illegal mining, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, a taskforce carried out a raid along the riverbanks, seizing and destroying 18 chanfan machines commonly used for illegal gold extraction. Additionally, 10 water pumping machines and other industrial equipment associated with illegal mining were also destroyed as part of the expanded ‘Operation Halt’ campaign.

The government’s initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at preserving the environment, especially targeting areas heavily affected by illegal mining activities.
