Canada-Based Ghanaian Doctor Charged For Sexually Assaulting Female Patient

A 64-year-old Ghanaian medical doctor based in Canada, Dr. Clarence Clottey, is facing new charges of sexual assault against a female patient, years after being cleared of a similar offense.

Dr. Clottey, who worked at “Bristol Family Physicians” in Oakville, Ontario, was arrested by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) after an adult woman reported being sexually assaulted during a visit to his clinic. Authorities have charged him with one count of sexual assault, and he has been released pending a court appearance in Milton.

The police released Clottey’s photo, believing there could be additional victims.

This isn’t the first time Dr. Clottey has faced such allegations. In January 2020, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) imposed restrictions on his practice following allegations of misconduct and previous sexual assault charges. Clottey, who was 59 years old at the time, had first been arrested in 2016, facing six counts of sexual assault after multiple patients accused him of inappropriate conduct during examinations. However, he was acquitted of all charges in 2018.

A year after his acquittal, Dr. Clottey was again arrested by HRPS for allegedly sexually assaulting a female patient in 2014. Following these repeated allegations, the CPSO implemented strict conditions on his practice, forbidding him from conducting breast, pelvic, or rectal exams on female patients. These restrictions remain in place as Clottey now faces yet another accusation.
